This file (1967 and 1968) is concerned with negotiations in which the Bailey interests granted an option to the Argus Printing and Publishing Company to acquire a controlling interest in South African Associated Newspapers. This appears to have been Mr Corder’s own file on the negotiations, with records of a meeting with Mr Layton Slater, chairman of the Argus Co., and notes of conversations with Sir John Ellerman (also a SAAN shareholder) and others. It also contains memoranda by MR G M C Cronwright, managing director of the Cape Times, dealing with the position of the Cape Times.
